Beer a Day Blog

My opinion on a variety of beers.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweißbier (Hefeweissbier)

Grüß Gott, today we are sampling a wheat beer from the Weihenstephan Brewery in Bayern (Bavaria), Germany. Weihenstephaner Hefeweißbier is an excellent weißbier (wheat beer) which I am sure you will enjoy as much as I did, just a refresher for those who don’t know, wheat beer is brewed with wheat instead of barley, giving it a unique taste. The one I drank is a Hefeweißbier, Hefe refers to unfiltered beer, and  if you see Kristall it refers to filtered. It is a very good wheat beer for those of you that like wheat beer or those of you trying it for the first time. Weihenstephan Brewery claims to be the world’s oldest brewery, being granted its first brewery licence in 1040, with roots to 768. Lots of time to get it right. A deep, cloudy appearance, with an excellent taste that doesn’t overpower.  Pick one up you’ll like it. Tschüß.
