Beer a Day Blog

My opinion on a variety of beers.

Saku

Well let’s stay in the Baltic States, today I am reviewing Saku Originaal from Estonia. Well I had a real case of déjà vu, it is very similar in both taste and colour to Zelta. A slightly stronger taste than Zelta, but like Zelta it is a very light tasting lager. They must use very similar brewing techniques in that part of the world. Probably one best served cold on a hot summer’s day. If you like it light pick one up, you will like it.

7.5/10

  1. You have made a mistake, claiming that Saku beer comes from Balkans. Estonia is a Baltic state, more than a thousand miles from Balkans. Much closer to Finland and Sweden than Greece and Serbia.
Saku Originaal is one of the two most popular beers in Estonia, it’s also liked by tourists and exported to neighbouring countries. But pretty average to my tastes.
If you have a chance you should definitely try more Estonian beers. I would recommend Kuld, Hele and Rock from Saku brewery and Special, Pils and Alexander from A. Le Coq brewery. The dark beers and porters have also recieved some attention and awards.
